Summer Camp Overview

Our beautiful site offers a variety of ecosystems–from winding river to cool forests to wide open fields–where kids can come to play, learn, and make new friends. Each summer, we offer six weeks of sessions running for 8 hours every Monday-Thursday. We try to accommodate working family hours as our staffing permits, with drop off between 7:45-8:15am and pick up at 3pm. Some campers sign up for one week and others for all six! Kids come to our camp from as far away as Texas, California, and Europe!

Each week brings new opportunities to create, romp, and socialize in a safe and engaging setting. Typical sessions include: fairy houses, fort building, campfire cooking, karaoke, arts and crafts, wood shop, theater, swim lessons (in collaboration with Tamworth Rec), yoga, fishing, swamp rats nature exploration, running and hiking, jam band, and so much more!

We collaborate with Cook Memorial Library to bring the book mobile twice in the season, giving kids their choice of free books. A grant from the Children’s Literacy Foundation brings a published author to camp, telling their story and bringing more books to share!

We provide a light breakfast, two snacks, and lunch for every camper, ensuring that the kiddos have plenty of energy for their day and taking one more thing off busy families’ plates.

Camp sessions are offered on a sliding scale to Tamworth residents. Sandwich residents can access financial support from the Sandwich Children and Youth Fund. Ossipee, Effingham, Madison, and Freedom residents can access financial support from the Ossipee Children’s Fund. Children with 504 plans or IEPs, or families experiencing the impacts of poverty can apply to the State’s Rekindling Curiosity program for camperships.

Starting in Winter and early Spring 2024, we will host workshops for parents seeking financial support, guiding folks through the process of applying for aid. We will expect that Tamworth families who use our sliding scale first reach out to other resources, and we’re happy to help!

Preregistration begins in April. For more info or to be added to our camp email list, please reach out to Lianne at director@bearcampcenter.org.

Big thanks to The Tamworth Foundation, the Town of Tamworth, the Sandwich Children and Youth Fund, the Ossipee Children’s Fund, Rekindling Curiosity, and the many, many private donors who have contributed to camperships making our camp experience possible for every child.
